Galeran de Bretagne

Jean Renaut composed the Old French romance Galeran of Brittany {Galeran de Bretagne} at the end of the twelfth century or beginning of the thirteenth century. Galeran de Bretagne shares with Marie de France’s lay Le Fresne the plot element of twin women in love with the same man. Among many insights into gender, both works show medieval women’s generous love and appreciation for men.
