Guy of Warwick

Guy of Warwick is an adventure romance in which Guy of Warwick repents of seeking to be a chivalric hero to please his beloved Felice. Originally written in Anglo-Norman shortly before 1204, it was translated into English no later than the early fourteenth century.

Guy of Warwick became a hero in England second only to King Arthur. His adventure romance survives in sixteen manuscripts and remained widely known in England through to the nineteenth century. Guy of Warwick is now rightly known as a seminal work of men’s sexed protest.
