Salimbene

Salimbene de Adam was a Franciscan friar born in Parma, Italy, in 1221. He entered the Franciscan order, against his wealthy father’s wishes, in 1238 and died about 1290. Between 1283 and 1288, Salimbene wrote his Cronica {Chronicle} discussing his life and persons and events in Italy from 1168 to 1288. Salimbene’s Cronica provides a vivid portrait of men’s difficult lives in thirteenth-century Italy.
