innovation in television: DOGTV

Despite much different television content and much different socio-economic circumstances, television viewers in the Soviet Union and in the United States in the 1980s watched television in similarly ways and for roughly the same amount of time on average per week.  Transformative innovation in television is difficult even for a company with the luster of Apple.

According to the DOGTV website, “DOGTV offers a promise to our beloved best friends that they should never again feel alone.”  Avoiding loneliness is a fundamental value of television to dogs and humans.

For avoiding loneliness, a dog is easier to obtain, cheaper to maintain, and less complicated than an intimate human other or children.  DOGTV solves the problem of the dog getting lonely.  That’s innovation in television.
