Jacques de Vitry

Educated at the nascent University of Paris late in the 12th century, Jacques de Vitry became an influential church leader early in the 13th century. In 1214 he was elected Bishop of Acre in the Latin kingdom of Jerusalem. In 1229 he became a cardinal based near Rome. Jacques de Vitry wrote many sermons and recorded many exempla. His work was highly influential on teaching and preaching throughout medieval Europe.
