Joseph of Exeter (Latin: Josephus Iscanus) was a twelfth-century scholar, perhaps from Exeter in England. He wrote the influential epic Ylias Daretis Phrygii {Iliad of Dares Phrygius}, also known as De Bello Trojano {About the Trojan War}. He finished that work about 1190. In addition to some religious poems, he also wrote Antiocheis, an epic on the Crusades. That work hasn’t survived. Solely on the basis of De Bello Trojano, Joseph is rightly regarded as one of the greatest classical scholars of all time.
